kosher salt

Katherine,
Kosher salt is given its name because it is used to prepare meat so it
is kosher. There are other things that precede and follow the salting
for meat to be kosher but meat must be salted so that the blood will be
drawn from the meat. Kosher salt has larger crystals than regular salt
and so doesn't completely dissolve into the meat.
There is nothing non-kosher about ordinary salt(of course there is the
use of only non-iodized salt for Passover).

Sorry to talk about such non-vegetarian things.
