I have a rice cooker with a metal insert which is covered by a non-stick
surface. Since the cooker never gets hot enough to cause the surface to
evaporate or burn, I don't think there is any transfer of "harmful materials" to
the rice. The cooker automatically turns off when all of the water has
evaporated.
