Some were speaking of the uses of zucchini when it gets really big.
James Barber (TV's "Urban Peasant") once told of using them when
he was working in logging camps in northern Canada.
They were dry camps (no alcohol allowed) and the workers had to
come up with ingenious ways to make their own booze. They would
take overgrown zucchini and core out the seeds. Then they would
run a string down the hollow center, dangling out the end and fill
around the string with sugar. They hung it up and, eventually, liquor
would drip down the string into a waiting container.
This recipe is untested by me, but Barber grimaced when he said
how horrible it was.
