A "bread boule" is a "bread bowl" - a round (spherical) loaf of the
appropriate size to hold one serving of a thick soup or stew. If you put
some stew in the "boule" just before serving it works just fine! It
wouldn't work quite so well for a thin soup though. And, of course, the
stew would also be great served in any traditional bowl.
