In my experience, baking soda and patience are the best remedies! Here is my
grandmother's tried-and-true formula:
Moisten the burned part of the pot, and sprinkle on enough baking soda to make
a wet paste. The paste should completely cover the burned portion, so be
liberal in your application of soda. (And make sure to add enough water to
keep it a pasty consistency.) Now, let it sit. (Overnight is good.) Wash with
hot water and the pot should scrub clean. You may have to repeat the process
once or twice over a 24-hour period, depending on the severity of the
disaster.
Good luck!
