I've been buying Pacific Fat Free Non Dairy Soy Beverage from Trader Joe's
for several months. They carry both vanilla and plain; both are rather
sweet, so I just use the plain. 70 calories per cup, 75mg. sodium, 14g
carbohydrate, 3g protein.
Ingredients:
filtered water, brown rice, organic soybeans, soy protein, natural
flavors, tricalcium phosphate, sea salt, guar gum, xanthan gum,
carrageenan, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D2. This is the first time I've
closely read the ingredients and I'm disappointed to find rice as the 2nd
one.
Since I don't drink glasses of milk anyway, this works just fine over
cereal, which is the usual way I consume it. I don't need to add other
sweetening then. It's also okay in coffee or tea, but because of its
rather watery appearance, may not have the desired "lightening" effect.
It's $1.29 per quart at Trader Joe's. That's why I switched from buying
another product (WEstbrae maybe?) at over $2 at the nearby yuppie market/
HFS. However, I think the other stuff probably had a higher percentage of
soy, so I may switch back.
