TVP TORTILLA AND TACO FILLING
Soak 1 1/2 cups TVP in 1 1/3 cups boiling water for 10 minutes (turn fire
off, do not boil the TVP). Saute 1 medium onion, chopped, with soaked TVP in
(your choice of water, broth etc.I think broth would work better.) Season
with salt and pepper, chili powder, garlic and soy sauce. This can be added
to tortillas as is or added to the following tomato sauce for a juicier taco
filling:
Taco Filling Sauce
Simmer together:
2 cups tomato sauce
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. pepper
4 cloves of garlic or 2 tsp. garlic powder
1 Tbsp. sugar
Serve the mixture on a white flour tortilla or a taco shell with shredded
lettuc, diced onions, and tomatoes.
SPAGHETTI SAUCE WITH TVP
1 onion chopped
1 -2 green pepper chopped
6 cups tomato sauce
3 1/2 tsp. oregan
1 1/2 tsp. sweet basil
1/2 tsp. allspice
3 1/2 tsp. chili powder (opt.)
1/2 tsp. hot chili (opt.)
1 bay leaf
1/4 heaping tsp. black pepper
3 3/4 tsp. salt
1 1/4 tsp. cumin (opt.)
1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 1/4 cups TVP
Saute onion and pepper until soft, and then add the tomato sauce and all the
spices, except garlic powder, and bring to a boil. Simmer about 20 minutes.
Add TVP and garlic powder and let sit for 10 minutes whioe TVP softens. When
TVP is soft, serve on spaghetti noodles.
