Chili: Here's the one I grew up with -- definitely gringo, but easy
and satisfying.
In the morning, put in a slow-cooker:
1 16 oz. can tomato sauce
2 16 oz. cans kidney beans
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. chili powder
(2 Tbsp. dry tvp, optional)
1 small onion, cut up
(*or* 1 Tbsp. dried minced onions)
Cook all day and eat.
Variations: substitute for one can beans,
1 16 oz. can corn
substitute black beans, pintos, or any other type of canned beans
Stir in salsa at end, if desired, or add one small can of mild diced green
chiles.
The above recipe can be made in any quantity, though the seasonings will
need to be adjusted down a bit.
