summer refresher
Hi everyone! It's hot here in California, so in honor of summer, I am
passing along my favorite cool-down method.
1 c. nonfat yogurt (Dannon is good, homemade is even better)
1 banana, frozen and broken into chunks
Choose one or a few:
1/2-3/4 c. juice (orange, pinapple, apricot/peach nectar, etc.)
Few big spoonfuls of juice concentrate (apple, limeade, etc.)
Any soft fruit you have around (berries, nectarines, fresh bananas,
mangos, papaya)
If fruit is tart, a little honey, preserves or sweetener of your choice
For the adventurous:
Cocoa powder (chocolate-banana shake?)
Dash of cinnamon and nutmeg
Few drops of vanilla
Splash or rose-water with a sprinkle of cardamom
Put it all in a blender or food processor, whip, pour into a tall glass, get
your favorite novel, sit on a lounge chair, and enjoy.
Tip: I always buy more bananas than I can eat while they are in that window
of perfection (for me, even yellow, no spots). As soon as they get more
ripe than I like, I peel them, break them into big chunks, throw them into a
freezer bag and into the freezer. Then, whenever the urge for a smoothie
strikes, I am prepared.
