Manioc is the same as Cassava, botanical names Manihot utilissima, M.
esculenta. It's also known as Brazilian Arrowroot, Yuca and Tapioca.
The roots are eaten boiled or baked, usually with a sauce, or to thicken
stews and sauces. The common use here is tapioca pudding.
