Brenda wanted to know if and why Dr. Dean Ornish is now recommending flax
seed oil as part of his daily eating plan.
It's true. The information came from the Healing-Heart e-mail list whose
listowner, Dr. Neal Pinckney, participated in a recent Ornish Retreat.
Ornish found that many people on a VLF diet, such as the one that he
sanctions, complained of problems with dry skin, hair and fingernails.
This was due to the lack of Omega-3 fatty acids in the diet. So the
good doctor now calls for a daily dose of about 1 tsp. of flax seed oil.
The oil cannot be heated or used in cooking and should be used chilled -
such as in a salad dressing - or something of that nature. So, in the
spirit of keeping up with 'science,' maybe we can see more recipes here
using this type of oil.
