As long as you keep the boards very clean, either are fine.
An automatic dishwasher is a great way to rid the boards of any contamination.
However, the heat of a dishwasher eventually destroys wood cutting boards. I
prefer plastic boards because they hold up well to daily washings.
A great way to keep your kitchen sponges and veggie/dish cleaning brushes free
of bacteria is to toss them in your dishwasher, too.
