Wheat kernals and wheat berries are the same thing. Wheat comes in hard
and soft varieties. If you are making flour with them, hard is more
suitable for baking bread while soft is better for pastry and cakes. If
you are cooking them whole, soft wheat requires less soaking time (about 4
hours) hard wheat requires an overnight soak (at least 8 hours) and may
take longer to cook.
As a generalization which is mostly though not always true is that soft
wheat is more round whereas hard wheat is more pointed. Hope this helps!

Is there a difference?
