Here's the recipe I always use (adapted from a Good Housekeeping cookbook,
basically omitting the oil):
1 onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 14oz. can tomatoes
1 6oz. can tomato paste
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar (or to taste)
1 tsp. Italian herb seasoning
dash of red pepper flakes
Saute onion and garlic in cooking spray or a tiny bit of water
till soft.
Add remaining ingredients, smashing tomatoes with back of spoon.
Simmer slowly, covered, for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Makes enough for two pizzas.
