Rosemary,
I remember my grandmother (who passed away in '93 at the age of 102) telling
me about the watercress sandwiches she used to eat as a young girl growing
up in Canada (maybe that is one of the reasons she lived so long!) and she
was English.
I've never tried them, but another favorite sandwich of her's was cucumber,
thinly sliced with lots of salt and pepper. Very refreshing in the summer
for lunch, but not a good idea for brown bagging, unless you wrap the
ingredients separately, or put a touch of LF spread on the bread first.
Enjoy.
